Lanka Electricity Company

I served a one month internship at Lanka Electricity Company between September – October 2019 that is mandatory for my Bachelor’s Degree. During my stay as an engineering trainee, I was stationed at LECO head office, Nugegoda brach office as well as Maharagama Customer Service Center.

LECO Head Office

During the stay at Head Office, I learnt about ArcGIS system used by LECO to store geolocation information of its assets. I also visited their Ante LECO meter factory and learnt about the production and testing process of electromechanical and smart meters.

LECO Nugegoda Branch office

During my stay at the branch, I was tasked with the problem of low voltage levels encountered by the customers from a particular residing neighbourhood (1st lane at Pathiragoda). All data including customers and pole distances of all feeders originating from the supply transformer was fed to LV design, a proprietary software of LECO, and it showed that the transformer was overloaded. A suitable location to set up a new transformer was decided based on the line diagrams and was later verified with a site visit. I later prepared the cost estimation for the new transformer installation and submitted to the branch manager.

Maharagama Customer Service Center

During the stay at the depot, I travelled with the maintenance team and observed maintenance activities like setting up new connection meter installation, meter repositioning, line removal and line extension.
